FREEDOM IN MOVEMENT |

FOUR BASIC PRINCIPLES TO UNIFY THE BODY AND MIND: 1. Use the mind in a positive way. 2. Use the mind with full concentration. 3. Use the body naturally. 4. Train the body gradually, systematically and continuously. Japanese Yoga: The Way of Dynamic Meditation, H. E. Namaste. As a Yoga Instructor, Fire Dancer / Performer (Contact Staff, Double Staff, Poi), and Drummer, I am very conscious of my body. Aware of it's movements, moving fluidly, alignment of the body, noticing movements that limit the body, conscious of the differences between the two sides of the body, constantly trying to find a better alignment or movement, a balance and co-ordination between both sides of the body. You may have structural tendencies towards postural misalignments because of your genes, but you can learn to strengthen and stretch the muscles of the body in a way that helps the body support itself, working towards better posture, freer movement, and easier, more balanced living. "The practise of Yoga induces a primary sense of measure and proportion. Reduced to our own body, our first instrument, we learn to play it, drawing from it maximum resonance and harmony". Yehudi Mennhin (Violinist). Though much of my awareness is directed towards balancing the body, silencing the mind and finding peace are integral aspects to unifying body and mind, and freeing the Self. Finding peace, and silencing the mind in order to achieve a no mind state, being completely present in whatever you are doing, whether it be through movement, Meditation, Yoga, art, drumming, dance, whatever variable activity that delivers you to freedom. I encourage you to find and explore whatever medium that can take you to that place, and bring you back feeling freer, lighter, and more balanced. |
